And why you should work with one!
Hiring any type of graphic designer can be daunting. It takes an investment of time, energy and a good level of financial commitment. So, obviously you want to make the best choice that is optimal for both you and your company’s needs.
Some companies are Sceptical to hire a freelance graphic designer over a design agency–believing that agency’s are more professional and trustworthy. This is completely untrue! Freelance graphic designers not only offer the same high quality service as any design agency, they offer more.
Here’s my three "perfect" reasons for choosing to work with a freelance designer.
1. Who doesn't like to make a saving?
Myself like many freelance designers work from home, which means we usually have smaller overheads (things like office rental, a huge amenity bills, staff salaries, and multiple software and hardware licensing, etc.) which can push up the price of a design job. By not having these financial obligations means we can offer the same high quality design process for a fraction of the cost.
Many big design companies usually wouldn't take on what is considered be “smaller projects”, purely because there is limited profit in it for them. But to a freelance graphic designer, all design projects are equally important and deserve the same quality and attention to detail regardless of the profit margin.
2. We make it personal
Within many design agency’s there is a hierarchy of positions such as art directors, graphic designers, art worker and even the intern; you never know who’s working on your project. In fact, it’s probably worked on by many people whom you have never met. Meaning your loosing that personal relationship between designer and client.
Working with a freelance graphic designer offers the ability to communicate directly to the designer, ensuring any questions and concerns are given the appropriate attention without loss of quality or time management.
As a freelancer designer I take pride in my ability to proved professional and unique experience for all my clients. Through first hand contact, I can deliver exactly what my clients want and not just a miscommunicated version of that requirement.
3. We offer flexibility
In the fast paced societies we live in today, the typical business platform is fast become obsolete. Agencies, just like most other office based business, usually operate within the Monday to Friday, 9 — 5 framework. Luckily, most freelancers don’t limit themselves to those restrictions. Whenever an emergency arises or a change is needed, it can be quicker and easier get a hold of a freelance designer, as most work to flexible work schedules.
I work to a flexible schedule, because I understand that not all businesses work within the usual working week timeframe. This means it’s not unusual to be able to get hold of me in the evenings or even at the weekend. Working a flexible schedule also enables me to flexible with meeting times and places–to the convenience of my clients. This makes my design process far more productive than a design agency.
